It was still a good year

Hey all of us are upset about the game and pointing fingers at Dun@$$ (like myself), coaches, white helmets, etc. Hey it was still a good season. As someone said They came long way from the 1960's and 1970's team that came up short, the 1984 and 1985 teams that were penaltize (I still think NCAA played favorites and wonder how came they didn't take away Bowden's and Carroll's titles). Let's hope they win the Bowl Game (which should be a BCS Bowl) and really hope no one else just something stupid before that bowl game.

This year was all or nothing for Florida.

Its funny to think that we will play Cincinnati (where i live) and this town is GOING CRAZY for playing the biggest game in the schools history. For Florida, nothing but disappointment.

I was so upset yesterday and in such a bad mood after watching the horrible game. But we did go undefeated in the REGULAR season. My sister keeps telling me this to keep my spirits up.

It was an amazing year. We will go into the Sugar bowl and hopefully play an awesome game againist Cincy.

"Nothing but disappointment"?

Is the fact that we went 12-0 in the regular season meaningless to you? For crying out loud, these kids worked hard to get to where they were this season. Sure they shot themselves in the foot on Saturday, but for Pete's sake, things happen. I'm so sick and tired of some Gator fans who keep whining about this team and won't except anything less than perfection from these kids.

Going to a BCS bowl is nothing to be ashamed of; I have faith in our team that we'll bounce back from this loss and go on to win our bowl game!

And oh yeah - GO GATORS!!!!!!

Oh, my, how far UF has come! Has it really been that long ago, that a 9-1 season was a GREAT season? How many years was it that a 9 win season was outstanding? I think that this time next year, everyone will be saying what a great year 2009 was, especially, if we beat Cincinnatti in the Sugar Bowl. I hardly see a 13-1 season as disappointing. We are still the SEC Beast of the East!

Dont get me wrong, there is alot to be proud of about this season.

As far as the media goes, it was all or nothing. This years Floridas team was set up like last years UNC bball team. Expected to dominate, expected to win. Fact of the matter going back to back is tremendously hard. This team has had great success, but i still believe they never completely gelled and could have been much better. We beat cincy i will be pleased, but I cant avoid wondering what if.

I agree with you.

This team had the potential for more. But poor play from Tebow, a questionable offensive coordinator, and a head coach that played not to lose rather than to win imo kept them from an undefeated season.

Several weeks back, I warned everyone on here about how playing not to lose would bite UF when they got to the SEC title game. That's exactly what happened. Alabama wanted it more, and UF didn't come to play.

WHY do you keep insisting that our guys play "not to lose"? I'm sorry, but that statement is false.

But then again, you seem to be part of that faction of Gator fans demanding perfection from these kids. In spite of your misgivings about Steve Addazio and Tebow not playing up to par (why not question Scot Loeffler here?), we managed to finish the regular season 12-0.

I don't know if our guys wanted that SEC title as much as Bama did, based on the sloppy way they were playing and making avoidable mistakes - that I'll agree with you. However, in spite of our team's shortcomings, we're going to a BCS bowl - and as far as I'm concerned I consider that an accomplishment in itself.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect 14-0 at the beginning of the year. Because imo this team had the talent to do it. I set my expectations on how good I think the team actually is. For example, next year I'd consider "successful" if they simply make it back to Atlanta.

Perhaps I should rephrase when I say they're playing not to lose. The coaching staff simply managed games. If the dive play was going to work 50 times, they were going to continue to call it. That's fine, but when you get to someone like Alabama, you can't just flip a switch and have an amazing offense all of a sudden. They seemed to have the impression that they could just magically turn it on in a big game and win.

They seemed to have let the distractions involving Carlos Dunlap and Charlie Strong influence them - that, or their hearts weren't totally intent on going after that win.

Keep in mind that every program, including Florida's, has a flux of talent in and out every year. Considering the seniors we are losing to graduation and the possible number of juniors who may jump to the NFL, we may not achieve the same results in 2010 that we did in 2009 - so to expect a return trip to Atlanta at this juncture is a bit unrealistic.

This year's recruiting class seems to be promising, but even so, it's hard to predict how Johnny Brantley will perform during his first year as a starting QB as well as the other returnees, and nobody can predict how many of the new recruits will see time on the playing field or how they'll perform.

Given this year's talent, number of returning starters, and the ascension of Urban Meyer is was not unrealistic at all to think we could have completed the mission. Looking forward to next year, it is not realistic to think we will do anything other than match 2007. Looking a little bit closer, it is quite realistic that Florida could lose to Cincinnati and complete the fall from grace.

All in all, I am happy with this season. I can remember worse seasons in the 80s, plus stories of the 70s, and 12-1, or even 12-2 heaven forbid, is not that bad.

Like we did after the Ole Miss loss last year, this team will bounce back from adversity and go on to win; I'm sure we'll head into the Sugar Bowl as the favorite. Knowing how passionate Tim Tebow is about Gator football, he'll motivate his teammates the same way after he made his famouns promise last year.
