Meyer the rat!

How is that? I replaced the question mark with an exclamation point.

As long as the NCAA agrees that this is not an infraction, then Meyer will look like a crybaby.

Urban Meyer knows the politics game. He will get in the Ring of Honor when he is ready, whether or not we like it. It might be a good thing if he does get in the Ring of Honor, because Jeremy Foley will get an opportunity to exert some control over Meyer--play nice with Florida or else lose the Ring of Honor.

I am not defending Urban Meyer, but the latest credible sources explain that it was not Urban Meyer himself that reported the alleged violation, but his chief of compliance (that is the job of the compliance director). These kind of things happen all the time, and they will continue to happen as long as the rules are the way they are. The difference here is that because of Aaron Hernandez and Tim Tebow, anything Gator will bubble up to the top of the news pile. This is just the beginning of the media onslaught on the University of Florida. Look for more headlines that accuse Florida of covering up AHern's troubles at Florida, or more headlines alleging wrongdoings.

Looking through the [NCAA infraction database ] you can see that schools play it safe by reporting everything. Schools that are already in trouble report more than others, and Florida is one of the top reporters.

All I am saying is that everyone is free to hate on Urban Meyer, but be careful of getting riled up over nothing. In any given week, all 300+ universities are reporting multiple infractions against one another or even self-reporting themselves--they have to do this in order to stay out of trouble. It is also a form of competition. Also note that "new stories" about Tebow and Hernandez are going to surface now that they have market buzz. Do not feed the trolls!

Ex-coaches keeps screwing the Gators though I Wish the President in 1984 would have challenged the ruling of the NCAA and/or the SEC especially since the penalties came into effect DURING THAT SEASON THEY WERE UNDER INVESTIGATION which probably was the only time that happened.

I agree. For some reason ex-coaches tend to hold a grudge. On that note, we should go easy on Ron Zook and Steve Spurrier, since they have not done anything bad to the Florida program.

Good point about SS and The Zooker, E-...Whatever else one might feel or say about either, each really has shown class, discretion and, dare I say it, a certain sign of honor and remaining loyalty when it comes to their former tenure at and once-professed love for this program.
Now, my OWN feelings and views concerning Meyer are well-known here (and elsewhere, believe me--lol), and though E-'s caveats regarding how things work nowadays in the "rat-yourselves-and-everyone-else" world of modern college football are well-taken, I sure get the impression that Urban plays this game hard and dirty, and calls it "smart". It does fit in with the growing clarity regarding his personality and way of doing business: The man will no more let things like "honor" or "loyalty" to UF cloud his conscience now than he let "discipline" or "character" mess with what he felt he needed on the field to win when he was here--and, let's face it, we all did mental contortions NOT to see it then for the longterm sacrifice--of our future as a program and that of the lives and personalities of individual players as young men--that it in fact was. It took a true man of character and unwavering vision of what he wanted this program to be, the guy we've got NOW, to show the way--AND start us down the road to making things right.
I'm not gonna dwell on this latest Meyer sleeze-job (I acknowledge E-'s "moderating-factors", but hold UM more personally culpable I think than he does--the guy (ie. Meyer) just can't help himself: That's how it is when you're morally bankrupt)...Best we can do is float on this sea-of-sh*t, and paddle on: OUR future is bright.

Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. -- Fake Buddha.

I really do not care what Urban Meyer does now that he has moved on to Loserville, Ohio. I respected Urban Meyer when he was here. I hated Zombie Urban Meyer when he was here. Whoever is piloting the shop in Loserville, OH can do whatever the heck he wants.

Well in the Princess Bride that did happen though they were both poisoned and the guy expecting the another guy to die did die (unsure if Wesley was expecting the bald guy to die, probably just not as clear as the bald guy).

(LOL) Well, we may or may NOT have wandered slightly "off-topic" here--tho' I suppose that TOO is "debatable"...
I think I summed up MY thoughts and feelings in all of this pretty well above, and also think that my own version of "movin' on from the anger" is on display there--and about the best I can DO in that regard. I no more care about the effects of general Gator opinion ON Urban Meyer than I expect it to change anything he does, or indeed it affecting him in ANY way.
We ALL "liked and respected him" when he was here and "plugged in", fully and undeniably committed to the success of our program. If we didn't want to "look a little closer", well, that's understandable...Now he's gone, that story's been worked over and thankfully is mostly in our rearview (at least for us, if not for the media, especially the very real population of "Gator Haters" among them that will continue to breathlessly report and slantingly belabor the most sensationalist aspects and darkest supposed "implications" of his time here)--and, as it turns out, we're better off and on a stronger footing AND a gathering charge into the future now. THAT'S the real news for us, and what I will tend to focus on, both personally and here in our discussions, from now on.

Maybe I'm too detached, but here's my perspective: Not with the Gators? Then you're either not important enough for me to talk about, or I hope you wind up getting pummeled whenever you meet us. I think Spurrier is a nice guy and talented and all that, but when SC shows up in the sched I hope he gets embarrassed and demolished. Otherwise, thanks for the memories and all.

Well said, FG.
(I've been pretty disgusted in my impressions regarding Meyer's two-faced, fork-tongued behavior in his final- and post-Gator days, but by now my more-and-more concluding attitude is pretty well summed up by you above...What I CONTINUE to despise is the loudly hypocritical self-righteousness spewing forth from so many media morons on any and ALL of the stories arising out of the current antics of former-Gators--I'm so sick of it that I'll not go there anymore: Unless someone wants to take this on in a separate thread dedicated to discussing it, I hereby declare my resistance to further debating the truth, fairness, accuracy or implications of ANY of these stories.
Meanwhile, FrozenGator, how 'bout a little background and your impressions regarding the Bears' new Head Coach? All we're hearing is how he "won seven Grey Cups in the CFL", with little context regarding the accomplishment; I figure we can turn to you here for background detail.)

Marc Trestman is a freaking genius, and an amazing coach. The Bears should be thanking their lucky stars they hired a man of his ability, quality, and talent. He works harder than many, and is a QB magician. Sound like I like him?

He came into a strong organisation, with a QB who has since (and with Trestman's guidance) surpassing all professional QBs in yards passing. So, there's that. But let me tell you the first thing I ever learned about him: He arrived in the CFL as an American. He insisted that all his players stand at attention during the Canadian anthem, helmets uniformly tucked under the same arm. He did this because his philosophy is that if you take care of the little things, the big things will take care of themselves.

Trestman is offensively-minded, but he works so closely with his OC that they wind up being of one mind. Rarely did his offenses rank in the bottom half of the league, and they rarely missed the post-season. That said, he works with all his coordinators to make sure everyone is working toward the same goal. One other thing to note: he didn't take very long at all to learn the CFL game - a feat that isn't always easy for American coaches.

Trestman was one of the big reasons Tebow wasn't going to choose Florida at first. Trestman worked with Tebow's mechanics before the draft, and they continue to enjoy a positive relationship. Their work ethic is similar, and their refusal to accept second place is shared. He's also a really strong family man, which is really hard as a head coach.

I really could sing this man's praises like crazy for a long time. As I said, Bears fans should be overjoyed to have him. He might need to get re-adjusted to the NFL game, but he won't take long, that's for sure.
