Randy Shannon's post game comment

Randy Shannon made some comments about how the Gators finished the game.... about how they kicked a field goal with a minute left.

Just seems like he's a cry baby.. would he rather have had us punch it in for a touchdown?

"I'll just say this one statement," Shannon said. "Sometimes when you do things and people see what kind of person you really are you turn a lot of people off. Now whatever you want to get out of that I won't say it again. But it helped us. It helped us more than you'll ever know."

he's an idiot!

if anyone saw the Oklahoma vs Boise State bowl game they know that if there is time on the clock, keep playing!!! that game came down to the last second, and a wild overtime. what is to stop something like that from happening in any other game.

for that reason i say score if you can until the time reads 0:00

Wow

Lets not forget this is the second game of the season. We have the Vols comming up and need all the real time game experience we can get. What a cry baby what about the 50+ points he put up on a weaker team last weak. PLay the game like it should be it theres time on the clock lets play some football and stop the winning.

We almost didn't get a chance to play in the NC in '06 b/c we didn't have enough "style points", so I gotta tell Shannon to STFU on this one. He's lucky the OBC isn't in Gainesville anymore. He would've called a flea-flicker on fourth down.

I understand where he's coming from, but I think what Meyer did was understandable considering we hadn't kicked a field goal all season, and I don't think it's reasonable to INSIST a coach go for it on 4th down and PURPOSELY not try to convert.

I find it amusing how Miami, the model example of how a classy college football team should act, takes this so personally.

Miami can never complain about running up the score. And maybe if their players hadn't been talking so much before the game, it wouldn't have happened.

Randy Shannon and Miami fans are being total jerks about this whole thing. Scoring 26 points is not running it up. When we drop 50 on Miami next time, that will be running it up. We kicked a freaking field goal. Geeeezzzz.

Boo-hoo-hoo! Randy Shannon's being a sore sport as far as I'm concerned. Hey, he's dealing with Urban Meyer - not Steve Spurrier or Ron Milquetoast Zook. Besides, we stay in a game for 60 minutes and don't stop playing until the last whistle or we call it a win.

And yes, by the margin we won by I wouldn't call it a RUTS game, either.

And now Warren Sapp jumps on the scUM bandwagon and calls Meyer a "dirtbag" - yeah, as if he's so classy.

Hey, they can't win them all. Quoting Coach Meyer, both Sapp and Shannon need to "nut up" and stop acting like a couple of little kindergarten boys.

As soon as Shannon stops going for it on 4th and short up about 40 points against lesser D1-AA opponents, I'll stop calling him Classless.

Him calling Meyer classless is ridiculous.

Shannon is lucky Meyer didn't go for a first down (fourth and one right?) or a touchdown. I know if I was Gators coach I would go for it and have Tebow pad some stats.

To be fair, I wouldn't say Sapp is jumping on Miami's bandwagon. He is a Hurricane. The fact that he's a hurricane shows you how classy their program is.

Jim Rome weighed in on the subject on his show.

Five days after getting slapped by the Gators, the “U” is still crying about that field goal Urban Meyer put on the board late, up by three T.D.’s. Canes’ head coach Randy Shannon actually thinks that move will somehow help him on the recruiting trail: “…sometimes when you do things and people see what kind of person you really are, you turn a lot of people off. Take from that what you want. It helped us more than you will ever know.” Well, you’re right about one thing, Coach…I will never know how getting your doors blown off by a rival on national television will help you!

Yeah, because I’m sure some uncommitted, 5-star recruit from the “Sunshine State” was at that game and thought, “…well I was planning on playing for the Gators after watching them wipe the floor with a clearly inferior program, but they lost me when they tacked on that field goal at the end there. Not cool. Coach Shannon! I’m coming to the “U”! Go Canes!
