The 100 greatest Gators

Where's the love for Don Gaffney? Starting Quarterback in '73, '74, and '75. He was the First black quarterback to start at Florida and only the second to start in the SEC. (the first was Condredge Holloway at Tennessee). Gaffney faced a great deal of adversity from opposing fans and Gator fans alike. Despite this, he lead Florida to an upset win over Auburn at then named Cliff Hare stadium in his first start in '73. This was the first time Florida had ever beaten Auburn in Cliff-Hare stadium in twelve tries. (Florida faced Auburn in that stadium every other year since 1951).

Don Gaffney's son is Jabar Gaffney and his nephew is Lito Sheppard.

Another groundbreaking player is Willie Jackson Sr. He was the first African American player to make a significant contribution at Florida. He came in a few months after Leonard George and started for a few seasons on the varsity.

I say Gaffney should go around John Reeves.

Thanks for the input! I could not find any statistics on Don Gaffney. I will insert him somewhere without stats and correct this list.

I already added Willie Jackson earlier this week alongside Leonard George at http://www.gatorenvy.com/threads/93-days-to-gator-football-leonard-george-and-willie-jackson.15475/.
