Who Does Florida Hire?

I don't think he is on the list but he has the proven record needed and thats the Oregon coach. I watched the game against State and he seems like such a nice guy and the players really seemed to love playing for him.

As much as I love Spurrier I would rather see Mullens come back. Spurriers at the age he might coach a few years and we would be back in the same position. Not that it couldn't happen with any coach but with Mullens being a new head coach and getting more successful every year I think he could do it at Fl., but fixing the D would have to be a priority also.

Yes the untold travesty of our new DC who failed. The numbers are not bad but clearly that could be just talent. They were not Coached very well as evidenced by lack of adjustments.

I would love to have Spurrier back, but I doubt it will happen and even if it does, I'm concerned that he'd only be at UF for a few years. I just have a gut feeling he's ready to retire soon and focus on golf.

Most of the suggestions already posted would make great hires in my opinion. I'm against Addazio for obvious reasons. I'm also against McDaniels because of Spygate 2 and because I could see him constantly looking to get back to the NFL.

Going out on a limb here....but I think Brian Shottenheimer would be awesome. Of course I would love to have Mullen too.

Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden would be insane and awesome hire for U of F.
I posted this on another forum regarding Gruden:

I don't think Gruden is a good fit at all. First, he's not a college coach. He's a pro coach. Second, even if he took the job he wouldn't be around long. I think Tampa pays him $5 mil NOT to coach in the NFL until next year. He'll be active for an NFL job next year. Third, Gruden would not be a good fit on campus or Gainesville. I ran into him a couple of times in Tampa, and he lived it up there. Getting free meals, signing autographs, etc. it was so bad I saw his kids roll their eyes and say "not again" one time. Gainesville is a little small for that kind of life and coeds would be a huge temptation for the guy.

LAST year maybe--but NOW? Right after going to the BCS Championship? Awkward, to say the least...we can probably have him if we were to throw enough money at him, but is that what will happen? Is he really THAT GUY?!!
Again: I want the guy that BURNS to be a GATOR!
In fact, I believe that same feeling (and warning) applies to all the guys you mention--SOS already chose to leave once and Mullen is not enthusiastic at the idea, by all accounts. We shouldn't HAVE to "induce" anyone this time. In fact, IMO it would be a mistake.

I say we hire someone used to dealing with Reptiles and go for the TCU coach.....Gary Patterson.
He's been doing a great job and is probably ready for a move even though TCU is renovating their football stadium....

THAT'S the other one I overlooked--Patterson. Yes, along with Petersen (too close in sound, maybe the reason?), Whittingham and maybe a couple of others we've discussed here, he has all the tools and prerequisites to be considered. Most of all, along with the knowledge, vision, and prior experience, he has that combination of passion, determination and drive--he's GOT "the fire".

Bobby Bowden is just as plausible as all the other rumors flying around. I typed out an entire article on the coaching possibilities and rumor control. After a couple hours of work I got within 3 seconds of posting the article before I shut my laptop and threw it across the room. **** it. This is killing me. I'd even take Bobby Bowden today rather than wait two weeks waiting to hear the news. I understand that two weeks is a fair timeline, but more and more news has been coming out that Meyer knew he was burned out and ready to leave. He should have told Foley a year ago so that Foley could have schmoozed with the Chris Petersens, Gus Malzahns, and Chip Kellys of the world, for the entire year. Yeah, I'd take Bowden today just to cut through the crap. At the very least, I will laugh at the idea. I could use a good laugh now.
