Overview

The Florida-Georgia football game, also known as "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party," is one of the most storied rivalries in college football. This annual clash between the University of Florida Gators (4-3, 2-2) and the University of Georgia Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1) has been played since 1926, with a brief interruption during World War II. The game has been held at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, since 1933, making it one of the few remaining neutral-site rivalries in college football. The rivalry officially started in 1915, but the game was not scheduled annually until a decade later. The series is currently at 44-55-2, with Georgia winning the last three. Florida is the last team other than Alabama to beat them since November 7, 2020.

I went to this game 5 consecutive seasons' (from Doug Dickey through Charley Pell), including the heartbreak of "RUN LINDSAY RUN!!!" to lose at the end of a game we were (somewhat unexpectantly) about to WIN. Fortunately, I and all my friends had started drinking (etc) before even getting on the Party Train out of Stark the night before. You could say we DEALT with the pain.
The point is, I assume that Gators still know how to enjoy this game REGARDLESS--The sad part being that it has come back down to even taking that into consideration.
Fun as "not caring so much" was, I can tell you that WINNING AND CARING IS BETTER!!!
We have GOT to get back...THAT is the only standard to be applied from now on, as far as ANY of us are concerned, RIGHT???
Now, I know some have "mixed feelings at BEST" about potentially "saving Billy's job", but in the end you cannot root against Florida--least of all in the Cocktail Party. So like with every OTHER Gator game ahead (only MORE SO with UGA), we just keep it simple and cheer on our Reptiles!
Beyond that, beyond EVERYTHING and MORE that will eventually no doubt be coming down the track, careening out of control, I guess in the end we can only just LET THE PIECES FALL WHERE THEY MAY!

With a number of our budding bigtime playmakers out with injuries (including Marshall on defense, Webb, Wilson III and others on offense), even having DJ and Baugh on offense and with Cormani and others coming around on defense, I'm afraid we now lack even a "PUNCHER'S CHANCE" of upsetting UGA in the Cocktail Party.
Make no mistake: To win ANY of these "gauntlet games" directly ahead of us, ANY win would be one that the PLAYERS manage to produce, NOT Billy and his coaching staff--and THAT is directly on the head of the Coach himself.
Aside from FSU (no longer considered a part of that "gauntlet"--but still not a certainty by any means), I'm guessing our best shot at a "shocking upset" would be against LSU. Most would say Ol' Miss (based mostly I guess on their reduced rank after a couple of unexpected losses), but (whether he sees it as a potential "job interview" or simply a matter of pride in the glaring public spotlight) I'm thinking Lane will get that one done.
Hell, the stark and inescapeable truth is that there is STILL nothing close to certainty that we will win another game this season.
We are ALL tired of being that kind of program.
"NOT the 'Gator Standard' ", indeed.

Random history on freshmen QBs starting against UGA in the WLOCP:

1. 2021: Anthony Richardson (redshirt). 12/20, 84 yards, 2 int. Left the game with a concussion. Gators lost 34-7. Also noteworthy, this was the first start of his college career.
2. 2017: Feleipe Franks (redshirt). 7/19, 30 yards, 1 int. Benched for Malik Zaire. Gators lost 42-7.
3. 2014: Treon Harris. 3/6, 27 yards. Gators won 38-20 with an insane running game.
4. 2003: Chris Leak. 13/23, 235 yards, 1 TD. Gators won 16-13.
5. 1993: Danny Wuerffel (redshirt). 3/9, 1 int. Benched early on. Gators won 33-26.
6. 1984: Kerwin Bell (redshirt). 96 yard TD in the 3rd quarter. Gators won 27-0.
7. 1980: Wayne Peace. 286 yards, 1 TD, 2 int. Gators lost 26-21.

So we hold, but gotta start deep.
Now we find out if Billy is here to try and WIN this game--or is he gonna call a safe, "keep it close" game? I HATE the latter, but I more or less expect it.

I don't like how this is developing.
At least we flipped the field...but we all know that the ONLY way we have ANY chance in this one is to somehow get the early lead and make THEM punch themselves out.

Napier’s best shot at winning is letting DJ Lagway throw deep at the backup safety and run Jaden Baugh… so he does neither. That idiot must be trying to lose on purpose because no head coach is this stupid.

I'm sorry. I just HATE being the underdog team.
Not USED to it. Don't WANNA be either.
I'm gonna shut up now...I can see how my frustration and unhappiness had me down COMING INTO this one.
What is now starting to happen is what I expected--but that doesn't make it hurt any LESS!
This is going to wear down our defense.
We've kept them off the board, but our defense is already bending badly.
This is what I was warning about:
Our Coach's approach is that of a guy who "didn't wanna lose TOO bad"...
Our D holds them out of the endzone, at least.
Again--whatever minor "victory" achieved is done BY THE PLAYERS, as a TEAM, to a great extent IN SPITE OF anything our Coach is doing out there.

EXACTLY!
I'm glad someone said it.
I have been trying to explain what we have been seeing so far--but yours is the simple "bottom line".
(We finally get our first look at Baugh running the ball with less than 2 minutes left in the first quarter. And another stupid Coaching-caused delay of game penalty turns 3rd and short into 3rd and long.)
Our defense gave us a whole quarter against the #1-ranked team in CFB for the offense to make a game of this--and Billy treated it as if that alone was the goal.
"We held them early..." will likely be his droning, nails-on-glass opening explanation for this depressing mess.
I will bail when it soon goes 10-0.

Well--THAT is how you upset #1!
Do that a few more times and maybe we change the whole narrative...

I wonder whose call that was, going right for the bomb to the endzone on 1st down after the INT...
Billy's or DJ's.
Exactly the right call, regardless.
That is how you call the rest of this game, boys.
