As a Bucs fan I called him (Keyshawn) Meshawn Johnson. However the one analyst that pisses me off is Merril Freaking Hoge.
Oh yeah. Hoge is a real piece-of-work--when he starts talking about Tebow you can see the SPITTLE flying from his mouth. He wants attention, it's true, but it goes deeper than that, I think. Real deep-seated resentment there, bordering on hate. Strikes me as downright pathological.

Note that I am not calling for Denver to throw away their entire playbook--just make some minor adjustments as other coaches have done in history. First, stop making Timmy sit under center. Put him at shotgun or pistol, preferably shotgun, and let him work from there. Second, put him in the no-huddle once the defense has settled into a run defense and let him try beating the opponent with his arm. The opposition needs to fear his arm once they stuff the box Third, modify those receiver routes. Tell them to zig when they zag, or zag when they zig. They are not getting open expecting a Kyle Orton pass, and Brandon Lloyd, the only receiver that seemed to understand him, is gone. Finally, just be open-minded about a modified offense that puts your team in a position to try winning a few more games, and lets you evaluate what you have in Tebow.
It's the "open-minded" part that seems to be the problem all around.
That one simple step, moving him to the shotgun, seems beyond them. You're right of course, it appears to be common sense to move him back where he can survey the field and "be in-play" immediately--Urban Meyer did it for a reason, and Tebow was his "perfect match", his "coach-on-the-field". You don't have to go to a whole "Meyer Spread", but to keep TT under center just because "that's the way it's done in the pros" is just plain stupid.
As you say, E: "Find out what you've GOT, Coach!"

So I'm thinking of heading down with my father-in-law to watch the Broncos, but I've honestly never bought tickets for an NFL game before. Aside from Stubhub, does anyone have any ticket resources they might be able to point me at?

Even the numb nut announcers figured out that Timmy has a near 90% completion rate when he starts in the shotgun and rolls right. His completion rate is below 50% from under center. Face it, he does not like to drop back 7 steps to throw a 12-yard hitch when his offensive line has let the defensive end wrap around and hit the quarterback from behind. Let the defensive coordinators send the house, as long as Timmy can keep rolling right to escape the rush. Heck, sometimes the defensive ends get around so quickly that it is easier for Timmy to hit the defensive tackles up the gut for 3-4 yards. This is a sign of a bad offensive line. There is no pocket per se...there is a vertical line that has been collapsed. That means that the middle screen will not even work. It will have to be a pass in the flats. Not a lot of options for an outlet pass. Do the Broncos own a tight end? Even a tight end screen can save Timmy's neck, assuming such plays exist in the Denver playbook.

In summary: Denver does not need to convert to the Meyer Spread, but it should look at the current playbook and look for some plays that take advantage of Tebow's strengths, not Orton's.

You know, it once again occurs to me the degree to which TT's preferences, tendencies and skills obscured a lot of our growing problems his senior year in exactly the way you describe and recommend Denver rely on with their COMPLETELY useless O-line. Only Alabama was able to effectively exploit the problems along our line that year ('09...Remember? Weeks before the SEC Championship, we all kept saying "So-and-so" needed to be replaced at OC and go back to coaching that by-then deteriorating O-line play).

I hope he's more consistent though going to be hard especially if the O-line can't protect him against Suh and possible SEC rival Fairley. Seven sacks a lot and I think mostly that is on O-line plus didn't Tebow escape from a sack for a first down? Would Orton did that? I doubt it. You can any QB current or former and he's getting sack a number of times especially again that Lions D.

Yeah he is gonna get eaten up this week. Vanden Bosh and Suh are too much for Denver's o-line to handle. But of course everyone will just forget that and just point out everything Tebow did wrong.

the broncos o-line sucks but tebow really does take forever to throw the ball lol

cam newton is a frickin beast tho he throws a hellova deep ball and runs better then i thought he would in the NFL i didnt think he would do near as well as he has

You think tebows comeback last week was impressive! Just wait! ;)

In all seriousness, I think alot of people saw this one coming. Denver is a terrible terrible team. Tebow would have needed a miracle to post decent numbers today. Now we get to hear about how bad it looked all week

Denver sucks. The law of averages were not even in his favor. I don't know what his completion % was by the end of game.

I had the game on in the garage while I was doing other things. Midway through the 3rd quarter the sound was off. I still got the visual.

I tried so hard to defend Timmy's honor in that fiasco, but I could not. True, Denver sucks. Really sucks. Painfully sucks. Timmy did not help his cause. He was stripped doing that long wind up, just as the detractors said. He fumbled the snap from under center, just as the detractors said. He hesitated during the reads, just as the detractors said.

Now, for the defense of Timothy Richard Tebow: he was forced to play as if he were Kyle Orton. If the Denver coaches had half a brain, they would have let him take the ball from the shotgun, and possibly roll out to avoid the rush. Seriously, the NFL pro style offense does allow for this. Honestly. What do you think Christian Ponder does when his crappy O-line fails him? He rolls out, moves the pocket, and does what he sort of did in college. I am willing to bet that if he were allowed to take the ball from shotgun and roll out, he would make things happen. Maybe his team sucks too bad to beat 5-2 Detroit, but it would probably have been a better game.

He should have had two touchdowns, Couldn't freakin that was incomplete. Decker caught the ball and had two feet inbound. When the call was upheld I wonder WTF was the referee watching because it wasn't the play in question. Maybe Merril Hoge bribed him (Yeah I said it, go f--k yourself Hoge).

You answered most of your own criticisms and questions here E-, so I don't have to.
I mean, with all the things wrong with that team, it is absolutely absurd to reduce it to "See how badly #15 played"...but hat quite predictably is exactly how it has been played by everyone in the media from the 1st qrtr on. Just consider, tho': Tim is known as a big, strapping MOBILE guy, yet he was sacked 6 times, knocked down another 6, and chased out of the pocket 23 times! To put him in there against that team with no virtually O-line to protect him and have him take the ball under center and (as you so aptly put it) "act like Kyle Orton" would be what I'd call the stupidest possible offensive game plan--except that I don't believe it was anything BUT a purposeful attempt to knowingly expose him to exactly that abuse, by the Detroit defense AND the national sports media, in the hope that it would inevitably penetrate the Denver fan base as well. What was "stupid" as a game plan-to-win becomes a rather vicious-but-cleverly-manipulative effort to end what management sees as a problem and a dilemma (in a Machiavelian kind of way): how to get the fans off your back before getting rid of Tim Tebow.
OK, we KNOW his unique weaknesses and foibles--he has 'em, like any athlete, as he does amazingly unique strengths few others possess--and they were on display here. But they are stacking the deck in simply putting him in that situation, and in not adapting the game plan to his skill set are handing him a set of marching orders that in this case (and in a lot of the games remaining on their schedule) guaranteed the observed outcome. The only way Tim can turn the tables, short-circuit their plans and give himself a real shot at a fair chance with another team I believe is to defy their hidebound instructions: at a certain point fairly early on THROW AWAY the "game plan" and play the game his own way, drop back into the shotgun and call audibles, roll outs, keep a blocking back with him back there to help, and so on, BECOME THEIR PASSER AND THEIR RUNNER, as TT is more than capable of doing--they'll lose some, but they'll WIN some too, more than can be said for that pathetic overall display they're putting out there now--and they'll be exciting and fun to watch.
Of course, there's little chance that Tim Tebow would do that, rebel and go for himself, good and honorable young man that he is--not unless the coach at least told him that was an option "if all else failed", and THAT will NEVER happen. They don't WANT him to succeed, let alone succeed doing it his way. Elway, Fox and Co. are more than willing to sacrifice the season, their honor (if they ever had any), the team's well being and the fans' sense of hope and optimism to retain full control, and if they needed any more reason, they have the rationale that if things go badly enough they might even win the "Luck Sweepstakes" and (supposedly--who can be sure?) solve the whole QB question THAT way.

It hurts me to say this, but if Timmy does not pull his head out of his *** next week, I am burning my #15 Denver Broncos jersey. Seriously. This reminds me of when I was in college tutoring basketball players. I could tell when some of them were not even putting forth any effort. I did not expect them to be mathematicians, but I expected them to do their homework, show improvement, and prove they cared. What I see is a lazy quarterback that thinks God will miracle him the ability to read defenses, throw the ball away, or run away from a blitz. What I see is a celebrity that got caught up in his destiny that he forgot to put in that hard work that supposedly he put into his craft. This is embarrassing. I can excuse dropped balls, a blown call from the referees, the lack of a good receiver, et cetera, but I cannot excuse his lack of improvement and the ongoing inability to gain minimal knowledge of the game. This really pains me to say, but he needs to show me something next week. I do not mean he needs to win, or even post a 130 QB rating. He needs to live up to his potential, just as every Gator graduate is expected to do. He does not look like he has read one page of the playbook or that he is retaining any training. He cannot do that and expect the world to accommodate him.

I dont think Tim Tebow, and lack of effort is an issue... He plays on a terrible team and had a terrible game. It happens. Lets see where it goes before we start questioning his effort.

I agree that Denver sucks as a team. Some of Tebow's piss poor performance belongs to him and him alone, and he could make some adjustments and still be Timmy...but he refuses to do so. To wit:

- Whether in a spread offense or pro style, THROW THE DAMN BALL after 4-5 seconds! Throw it deep, throw it short, throw it out of bounds. Just throw it!
- See? You just proved those naysayers right with that wind mill throwing motion. Thanks for making me look like an @$$ for all those times I defended your honor, Mr. Tebow.
- Read the play book. No matter how bad the team sucks, you need to audition for your next job. Keep sucking and that job will be high school coach.
