(laughing) Now: Which of the above paranoid fantasies ("They are FACTS, you blind fools!") are the LEAST likely? Or better Q, which one would you LIKE to be true--and which the least? ...A regular "personality test"!)

It is a matter of perspective. You live out there, and you know that UTx fans think that the Shorthorns are God's gift to college football. To us Gator fans, they are not all that because we suffer from a similar complex (0verall, not including me and a few sane ones). To someone in Austin, Gator fans are crazy to demand 10-win seasons year in and year out. Replace "Austin" with "Los Angeles" or 'Tuscaloosa", and you quickly find that we are all equally crazy and equally gullible to these rumors.

To me as a Gator fan, I find it odd to take back one of its former OCs as HC. Florida has never done that, so hearing rumors that it would be Sark and not Orgeron taking over at USCw did not make sense to me. It also did not make a lot of sense to my USCw friends who had grown attached to Orgeron and associate Sark with the old regime that got them into their NCAA violation mess in the first place. To me as a Gator fan and SEC fan, I knew there was no way in hell Satan was going to UTx, but all my Shorthorn friends are so used to getting whatever they want with money. Back in the day, UTx had way more money than anyone else. Well, times have changed and the amount of money UTx has is more than the rest of the schools, but not much more than the poor ol' SEC schools.

In short, they are all least likely to be true. They are all rumors driven by overzealous fans that want to believe something when things are not going well. The way I see it, yes, it does suck to go 4-8, but we still own one of the top 10 longest streaks of non-losing seasons and we still have the most wins since 1990. It just sucks that FSU now owns the longest current streak of non-losing seasons.

Really E-94? UT fans think us gators fans too demanding? WOW!!!!!!!!!! Those UT fans were ready to throw in the towel after two early losses. Later on UT was one game from winning the BIG 12, if they won against Baylor. Man I wish the gators beat BAMA in 2009. They would beaten UT soundly with or without Colt McCoy

Yes. It is interesting to see things from the perspective of others. Remember that UTx thinks people will pay for 24/7 access to the Longhorn Network, even when the football team is barely managing 6 or 7 wins. They think they scared away aTm. They think Alabama cheated in order to beat them by targeting McCoy.

You got THAT right, Lf--everything you say here...Someday it WILL happen, tho'--and when it does (and, much as I long for that match-up, I want it to be for EVERYTHING--and am willing to wait for it, rather than see it in that "consolation"/SEC-vs-Big 12 game that's liable to end up being called "The New Cotton Bowl"), I am fully confident (provided it IS the final, deciding PLAYOFF game) of the same outcome: Gators win--and once we get an offense that CAN roll it up on the Alabamas and LSUs, we'll roll OVER "The Austin Pro-Team". Horns' fans live in SUCH a clouded, self-centered and arrogantly deluded world that they really don't have any idea, even now, how good a team you have to be, week in/week out, to win the SEC--and how that prepares you for ANYTHING.
I can't wait: I lick my chops at the prospect.
@Escambia94,
I agree with you completely, too, E-, re both your take on Horns' fans, and that whole ongoing biz with various fan-bases expecting the return of certain former "prodigal sons". Even certain GATOR fans are somewhat guilty of this--I'm referring to the "When's SS coming back?"-crowd here: Maybe it's just me, and the fact that it's the only one (ie. the periodic excited rumor/expectation) I've any emotional stake in, but I've always found this one the most absurd (and unlikely one) of all. (Hey, another chance for an obscure movie-reference (I mean, REALLY "obscure"): "NE-vah HAH-pen!") I NEVER took any of these latest/currently-ongoing ones seriously, though--and find myself shaking my head once more at fans in general, maybe even giving me some perspective and caution at my OWN emotion-based knee-jerk over-reactions?
NAHHH!

Fans of the big programs are equally crazy about their teams. Florida should have an advantage over some of those big programs, because we have already been humbled. The 1979 season was painful, but the aftermath of that kicked off 34 years of success. The 1984 and 1985 seasons were magical, and if we were a lesser school we would claim some form championship for both of those seasons and display them on the walls of our stadium or show them in the brochure we show to recruits (see Alabama, aTm, Michigan, and others).

The only thing that bothers me is that FSU and Miami repeatedly get freebies from the NCAA that allow them to chip away at Florida. Fans over at USCw and Penn State are clearly upset that FSU allows a culture of potential rapists and Miami allows a culture of paid athletes. I like Jameis Winston (call me crazy), but FSU could have handled the potential rape case better. Since he was innocent, the system would have worked the way it was designed without Tallahassee PD and the school manipulating the system. Miami just plain got away with everything just by self-imposing penalties.

This brings me back to Florida in 1989. The coach gave a kid a loan for child support. He did not pay for a party yacht or a new car. How does Florida get hammered for a $400 loan while FSU and Miami get away with rape and large payments?

As for Spurrier, he is not the savior of Florida football anymore. I would like to see the Throwin' Mayoan get his chance to save the offense. He is a protege of Spurrier. Kerwin Bell did not play for SOS, but he did come back as a GA and he does use a variant of the Fun N' Gun at a school that has no football scholarship athletes. There would be a risk to this, since Bell has never tried that offense against an SEC-caliber offense.

@Escambia84, --and EVERYONE ELSE HERE:
Well, as of earlier tonight, we've got our (limited) answer, at least that all-important first step: We now know who our next OC will be, going into NSA and the spring: It's gonna be Roper, from Duke, after all--and aside from one wag's (albeit clever and funny) comments on the general trend in our "lowering expectations" in terms of background/prior-job-rep (ie. "Notre Dame, then Boise State, now Duke ...What's next: Savannah State?!!"), he's just the kind of young guy coming up fast and so far, at least, getting the kinds of results, wherever he's been, that project an exciting change that many of us have been hoping for all along. I for one (as I reflected in my earlier comments elsewhere upon hearing of Muschamp's wooing him) have no problem with this choice on first, now 2nd and 3rd considerations. He's a quarterback-building specialist, he's got good and successful experience in other areas as well (he was a running backs coach in there for a couple of years somewhere as well), and he has his own evolving ideas on flexible, wide-open offenses--and HOW you "open them up" in the first place. He's worked for and with some really talented, top-of-the-heap Head Coaches who think highly of him--and he's gotten results at places that heretofore were NOT football power-houses. It'S TIME for him to "step up to the Bigs", and we may be lucking out getting him now, at this point in his career, hungry and ready. All in all, it's wait'n'see time--with every reason to go into 2014 with some degree of upbeat hope, even excitement: Healthy across-the-board, with Muschamp's overall leadership and in practical terms him concentrating on his potentially KILLER D, with a reborn scheme and purpose on offense (and PLEASE--a return at least to efficiency, even superiority in kicking and special teams, as we once not long ago could somewhat assume here at UF), I can envision a stark, even rampaging turnaround for this squad from the past season to the next.
Muschamp's X-mas gift to Gator Nation? (Not Santa's...You won't find HIM on our side of the stadium for The Cocktail Party--not in THOSE colors!)
I mean, I WANNA believe...

I have mixed feelings on hiring Roper. Sure, he comes from Duke, but he is an SEC guy. Look what he did at Duke with 2 and 3 star athletes! He already recruits in Jacksonville, Hialeah, and Ft Meyers, as well as California, Texas, and Nevada. His offense has broken some of Spurrier's records at Duke. He developed several NFL QBs, including 2X Super Bowl MVP and #1 NFL Draft pick in 2004, Manning the younger. His offense ran the third most number of plays in NCAA, and he was a finalist for the Broyles Award.

If Muschamp hampers the offense again, he will definitely be looking for a new job this time next year. His buyout becomes quite affordable in December 2014. If I were Foley I would have a few phone numbers on speed dial by mid October 2014. In years 1-3 a coach gets lots of free excuses that go away in year 4. Defense and injuries have saved Muschamp up to this point, but offense and special teams may determine his fate in 2014.

Escambia agreed, knowing Foley; he already has the speed dial numbers setup somewhere in a hidden bunker.

Muschamp, is all or nothing right now.

If Muschamp wants to be at this program for a long time; he has to have a winning season no if and's or buts about it.

If I were Foley, my criteria for continued employment to Muschamp would be:
  1. Beat UGA
  2. Win the SEC East
  3. Finish in the top 60 on offense
As a fan, I will not be happy with Muschamp unless the Gators also beat FSU or Alabama next year. There is no middle ground for me with UGA--beat them or I am crossing off Muschamp from my Christmas list. I want to beat FSU or Alabama, but I do not expect to beat both.

Escambia, that is very realistic criteria. With the talent coming back, and this supposed up-tempo offense, the things you mentioned can happen.

I believe we can go 1 - 1 with Alabama/FSU if the stars are aligned properly.

Well the gators got the punishment the way they did because NCAA played favorites and allowed two bitter ex - gator coaches involved with the investigation. However the leaders of the university could have challenged the punishment or modify it like what UNLV did after the season they won the championship in basketball in 1990. At least to save the 1984 season (straight out BS that the gators punishment immediately during that season). That 1984 title should've belong to the gators. I think the U and FSU and others gave money and women to NCAA. Well it could have worse, just ask a SMU fan. Also if you saw that 30 for 30 about SMU, They about beating UT in 1980 and getting the attention of the NCAA after that win. Also UT fans said that Colt McCoy was targeted? Really? Come on it's football plus it looked like a clean hit to me and I was cheering for UT (Sorry I didn't want to cheer for those BAMA A-HOLES). Also I admit Winston is a great quarterback heck I believe if Meyer was still here Winston would have been a gator. Also I believe the Tallahassee Police Department needs to be investigated. I think they all they did all they could to protect Winston.

I think I know where the "mixed" feeling comes in: NONE of us here were trumpeting Roper the last few weeks, as I recall. He wasn't my first choice by any means; few mentioned him or even included him in their more extended lists.
OK: So he wasn't many of our's "Dream Guy", for whatever reasons (mostly where he was coming from, and how aware we were of him until now, I suspect). Thing is, now that we "got" him, closer inspection RAISES his appeal--the closer I examine he and his record of accomplishment, who he is, where he's been and what he's done there, and above all the manner in which he's done it, along with the flexible, at times visionary as well as practical philosophy underlying all of it, the better I feel about this choice. I'm more than ready to listen to anything that undermines that feeling, though. I'm NOT interested in us fooling ourselves, setting us up for another big let down--this one, at this crucial "last-chance" turning-point, could sink us for years to come if it goes badly. We just can't afford anymore false hopes: Either we get it turned around here and now, or we end up having to completely tear down and rebuild the whole program practically from the ground up--talent, pull, reputation, recruiting footprint and all. All of it, our place in the national "consciousness" (hard-won and only relatively recently achieved, mainly in the Tebow-era) most of all, is interrelated, and depends on a return to frontline, top-of-the-polls relevance soon in order to sustain. We've used up our Schwarznegger-like "I'll be bahk..." do-overs by now. Time to shut up and get it done--or the only "back" we'll be heading in is "back to the rest of the pack".

That whole 1984 championship title issue still irks me. It irks me more that Miami and FSU will keep getting away with this crap until the end of time. How does the Florida State College for Women allow its women to get raped, and how does the corrupt Tallahassee PD get away with covering this stuff up? Heck, if I were a female I would leave the city of Tallahassee, since they have officially been declared livestock for FSU athletes to take at will.

In a way, I'm sort of glad I'm waaaaaay up here, away from the history and off-season shenanigans. I take my teams seriously, and I'm almost certain I'd be dragging the Coach off to Lake Alice myself...

As it stands, it's just not worth the airfare.
